The theme is “God Still Answers Prayer,” and how true that is! We have experienced many answers to prayer in the last year such as the launch of Mountain Gospel online streaming in January. God is alive and at work, and we want to celebrate with you! We would like for you to participate by sharing your answers to prayer with us that would be encouraging to others. Throughout the week of Sharathon, we will be broadcasting these praises as a reminder that God still answers prayer! Please contact us with your testimonies of answered prayer.

Sharathon is scheduled for May 8-11. We would appreciate your prayers and support, letting people know about this exciting event! Many guest speakers will be on the air throughout Sharathon such as Rev. Tom Lorimer, Dr. Philip Speas, Dr. Eldon Neihof, Rev. Eldon Miller, and more. Local groups will be singing on the radio every evening from 7-9 PM. You are invited to come to the studio Friday Evening for some great LIVE southern gospel music and Fish Fry with Ed Carpenter from 5-8 PM. Everyone is invited! Our goal this year is to raise $15,000 for operating expenses and needed station improvements. We believe that God provides and that God still answers prayer! So please join us all week for our Spring Sharathon, here at Mountain Gospel Radio.

Photos and videos of the destruction do not do justice to the amazing situation on the main shopping strip on the outskirts of Salyersville. Virtually every business along there was destroyed or damaged. Some of the saddest stories were of people who had to leave their homes for a couple of days and then return to nothing. Miraculously, there was no loss of life, nor were there any fires. Though many homes and businesses were destroyed, the storm seemed to stop right next to the Burning Fork Community Church, a KMHA church. People came from all over: from Winchester, Lexington, and even Ohio, to help package food and household items for the community. Pastor Eddie Dennison and his wife Susan were greatly blessed by all that was brought. They began grilling meat the very next day after the storm, and they have already served over 6,000 people in just four days!

After leaving Salyersville, the group stopped at the Index Community Church, another KMHA church just south of West Liberty proper. Here was an amazing scene. Pastor Mike and Caryl Frisby had just completed a very large multi-purpose building. It was quickly turned into a distribution center for the whole area. Many groups and churches were coming in for large quantities of supplies. Meanwhile, in the church building itself, a room was packed with individuals gathering canned food and household items. In their fellowship hall, hot meals were being served twice a day. They said that volunteer work teams have been greatly needed. Heading into West Liberty, authorities were only letting people through on the main roads- even Pastor Mike was unable to drive around town. The downtown is now nothing but rubble. Electrical teams from all over the United States have descended on Morgan County, and so the situation is quickly growing better, but rebuilding will be a long process.

Pastor Bud and Brenda Angus at the KMHA Woodsbend Community Church have been blessed with abundant stores of food and other goods for their community west of West Liberty. Many homes were destroyed, but the Woodsbend Church sustained relatively little damage. This church is also acting as a distribution center for relief in the area. It is miraculous how God has spared these three KMHA churches. God has given them vital roles in their respective communities.

The radio station is serving as a drop-off center for the Jackson-Vancleve area. Our doors are open from 7:00AM-6:00PM for donations for continued relief efforts in Eastern Kentucky.

On Friday morning, March 2nd, prior to the severe storms, lightning struck our FM tower causing the station to temporarily lose power, but Mountain Gospel was soon back on the air with little damage. This storm related incident paled in comparison to what would happen during the storm that evening. Though the storm curved around Mountain Gospel causing no further damage to the station, the tornadoes launched their assault on villages and towns within Mountain Gospel’s listening area. Our parent organization, the Kentucky Mountain Holiness Association, has churches scattered throughout the region.

The Burning Fork Church in Salyersville, pastored by Rev. Eddie Dennison, borders the Mountain Parkway. Motels, restaurants, and stores line the Parkway there. After the tornado swept through, not one of these businesses was left standing, but the Burning Fork Church remains! Praise God. Now, that church is serving as an aid station for displaced people. The church had relatively light damage compared to the surrounding loss. Pastor Eddie Dennison and his people have served 1700 meals in the few days following the storm.
The Index Community Church is in the West Liberty community, but is separated from the town by a mountain. That mountain seemed to block the tornado from the church’s side of town. The tornado flattened West Liberty. The town is closed to gawkers. Lineman and emergency personnel are trying to restore order. Faced with such tragic loss, the Index Community Church is trying to help people. Pastor Mike Frisby has at least eight families in his church who have lost their homes in the West Liberty area.

Woodsbend Community Church had damage. Pastor Bud Angus has lost neighbors. Barns and livestock have been destroyed. Ten Kentucky Mountain Bible College students and about twenty from the Mount Carmel High School went to help Bud on Saturday. They cleared trees that had been downed by the tornado that swept above the Woodsbend Community Church and the parsonage. The buildings remain. The community is shaken.

Broken dreams, lost lives, and hurting people. Mountain Gospel is assessing how we can best help. Once utilities are restored, some of these areas will be reopened. We can send relief in the form of supplies and money to these areas.

Mountain Gospel is positioned to assist people through the auspices of our partnership churches in the areas and emergency relief groups. If you would like to help in the aid and recovery process, you can give online. All online donations to Mountain Gospel Radio will go directly to disaster relief in these areas. You may donate online here:

We are very excited about the recent upgrades to the station- the most recent and exciting being the launch of Mountain Gospel online streaming! WMTC’s programs now travel through new fiber optic cables where they are streamed online around the world! This has allowed hundreds of new listeners to tune into Mountain Gospel radio. In the first two weeks that Mountain Gospel has been online, over 300 new listeners have tuned in from local counties such as Breathitt, Johnson, and Knott to places like Indiana, Ohio, Iowa, and even Honduras! We launched online streaming in order to promote WMTC’s mission of spreading God’s word through sound to a larger audience. Now people can listen to Mountain Gospel radio and hear Southern Gospel music or encouraging Christian programs from anywhere in the world where internet is available.

We are greatly encouraged by how WMTC has progressed through the decades. Twenty years ago when WMTC was launched on 99.9 FM in 1991, no one would have imagined that the message of WMTC would be broadcast around the world through online streaming! We praise God and thank our supporters for helping advance Mountain Gospel into the future of God’s ministry.
